The main problem here is not with the Zambian judges anywhere; it is with the lead opposition political parties in UPND, FDD or NDC who just fear Lungu and deny an open fact that he is 100% eligible to contest in 2021. You don’t need to be a lawyer or magician to see this naked fact in the Zambian Constitution that Lungu is eligible to contest in the next elections. From the word go and without fear or favour, the Constitutional Court is 100% correct in their simple ruling that Lungu is 100% eligible to stand in 2021.
Today, 7th December, 2018, the ZAMBIAN Constitutional Court has ruled that President Edgar Lungu is currently serving his first term of office and is therefore eligible to contest the 2021 elections. The ConCourt has ruled that the amount of time President Lungu served after Michael Sata’s death cannot be considered a full term.
The Constitutional Court ruled that President Lungu did not serve a full term between 2015 and 2016, which by interpretation means he is eligible to contest elections in 2021. This is in a case in which leaders of Christian Democratic Party, Zambia Republican Party and the New Congress Party asked the Concourt to determine whether President Lungu could stand in the next election.
In conflict resolutions, there is a known maxim which says that “if you want peace, start prepare for either peace itself or start preparing for war”. The Zambian opposition political leaders in HH, GBM, CK or Harry Kalaba have been preparing for war with regards to 2021 Presidential and General Elections while Lungu and his ruling PF plus the MMD ally have been preparing for peace because that is what is on the ground.
